Usefulness of micro-arrays technology in ethiological diagnosis of eosinophilic esophagitis

چکیده
Background Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is an immune-mediated disease of the esophagus characterized by symptoms related to esophageal disfunction and histollogically by an eosinophil-predominat inflammation. Multiple therapies have been suggested to be helpful in EoE including endoscopic dilation, medical therapy and withdrawal dietary but, the election of what food should be excluded is very difficult. Component-resolved diagnosis and microarray technology have been recently introduced into clinical allergy practice, and may be particularly useful in foodsensitized allergic patients. We used microarrays methods in EoE to find specific food proteins or epitopes possibly implicated in this disease.

متن کاملClinical Characteristics of Pediatric Esophagitis in Southern Iran; A Single-Center Experience
Background: We sought to determine the clinical characteristics of pediatric esophagitis in southern Iran. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted over a 4-year period, from 2005 to 2009, in Nemazee Hospital, a tertiary healthcare center in Shiraz, southern Iran. We consecutively included all pediatric patients (< 18 years) who underwent endoscopy in our center and had pathology...

متن کاملSerum Interleukin-17 Evaluation in Patients With Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Disease
Background: Eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders or diseases (EGIDs) may result from an abnormal immune-mediated response to food antigens. Activated eosinophils release various mediators with inflammatory properties which may result in tissue and subsequently organ damage. The cytokine milieu of these patients has revealed increased levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, inc...
متن کاملEosinophilic esophagitis and food impaction: an instructive case.
Although the key features of eosinophilic esophagitis have been increasingly described over recent years, this entity is still often not considered and consequently diagnosis is often either not made or delayed. Typical endoscopic findings may be present. The diagnosis of eosinophilic esophagitis, however, relies on the histological assessment of mucosal biopsies. This case report highlights a ...
